New Year's Resolutions have great intentions...to motivate you, help you achieve personal growth, let you experience positive change, find freedom from bad habits, etc. These are awesome things, but setting a resolution isn't always the most effective way to achieve your goals. If you want different results in 2014, you need to do something you have never done. Do something completely different this year and ditch your New Year’s Resolution and try these tips instead.
1. Make Happy Lists, Not Resolutions
Put down the magnify glass and stop focusing so hard on the things that you want to change (bad habit, lifestyle, food, finances, addictions, etc.). Don’t write down the things you want to resolve, instead, make lists of positive things in your life. It seems wackadoodle and a little counter-intuitive, but it is the most beneficial thing you can do. When you focus on exhilarating, happy things that feel good instead of bogging yourself down with criticisms and self improvements, the little hold ups in your life that prevent you from achieving your dreams will begin to loosen up on their own. Make your happy lists; read them as often as possible, and let your life move in the direction of your dreams.
2. Give up the Struggle
New Year’s Resolutions often feel like a struggle with a giant measuring stick. Yikes! Don’t even go there. Pushing against something is an unnecessarily hard way to accomplish your goals. Stop pushing and start embracing...celebrate more. Encourage always. Congratulate yourself often. Love yourself more freely. Be generous. Share happiness with others. Live inspired.
Fact: real, meaningful change starts in your mind with the way you think...not the action you take. Change your perspective and you will feel inspired to act. Inspired action is where your power is...not in striving to keep a resolution. Give up the struggle and live from a place of power.
3. Expect 2014 to be Awesome
When you honestly, truly, genuinely, wholeheartedly, expect things to be great, great things will find you. The key to this is to feel satisfied with where you are now, have peace of mind knowing that everything is going to work out the best, and feel giddy with anticipation of things to come. 2014 will rock your world in amazing ways if you let it...how exciting is that?!?
